Toronto Bridge: Is Immediate Loading Better?

The Toronto Bridge is a groundbreaking innovation that has revolutionised dentistry. By applying this prosthesis, it is possible to regain all teeth and say goodbye to removable dentures in just a few sessions and with the minimum number of implants. It is screwed onto four implants using the All-on-4® technique, and for an even more stable solution, six implants (All-on-6) can be used.

At our centre, we help more and more patients with the Toronto Bridge, and many of them request immediate loading, a technique that provides new teeth within 24 hours without waiting for osseointegration. While we are not entirely opposed to this solution, we believe that for successful implantology, it is always better to wait for the completion of the osseointegration process and the necessary biological healing time. Overloading newly placed implants immediately reduces their stability and longevity (Delayed versus immediate loading of implants: survivor analysis and risk factors for dental implant failure, Susarla SM, Chuang SK, J. Oral Maxillofac Surg).

It is crucial to avoid micromovements that could compromise osseointegration. Therefore, we recommend waiting the necessary time for the implants to stabilise and integrate perfectly into the bone before applying the final prosthesis. The optimal waiting period is at least three months for the lower arch and six months for the upper arch. This increases the success rate.

If the patient decides against immediate loading, Freesmile provides a temporary prosthesis, allowing them to continue smiling and chewing normally in the meantime.
