Tooth loss, especially total loss, causes significant discomfort. On one hand, eating all types of food, including harder ones, becomes nearly impossible. On the other hand, even smiling becomes a source of embarrassment, inevitably affecting one’s social and emotional life. This is why the All-on-4® technique, with the application of the fixed Toronto Bridge prosthesis, is increasingly popular.
This technique allows for the rehabilitation of entire arches with fewer implants. It is suitable for patients with total tooth loss, those missing teeth in a single arch, wearers of removable dentures, or patients with teeth so compromised that extraction is recommended to prevent further bone loss, which could hinder implant placement.
The prosthesis is fixed using the All-on-4® technique, supported by four implants, and can replace 10 to 12 teeth. For an even more stable prosthesis, six implants (All-on-6) can be used. Since it is widely used for edentulous patients, cases of insufficient bone are also common. As is well known, tooth loss also leads to bone loss. The Toronto Bridge, through the All-on-4® technique, compensates for this deficiency by positioning the implants at an angle. This is crucial because, in patients who have been toothless for a long time, bone regeneration is generally insufficient, and angled implants help address this shortfall.
The lateral implants are angled between 20° and 45° and are placed in the anterior part of the arch, where the bone quality is better. The inclination not only broadens the prosthetic base but also brings the implant insertion point closer to the exit point of the posterior molars. Additionally, it allows for the anchoring of sufficiently long implants even in areas with inadequate bone.
Contrary to what one might think, angled implants are securely anchored to the structure, so there is no risk of them falling out. Naturally, the procedure must be performed correctly.
