In the second, the pain is intense and constant, subsiding only when the nerve loses vitality. However, bacteria continue to destroy the bone around the root apex, leading to granulomas, cysts, and abscesses.
The pulp must be removed through root canal treatment and, in severe cases, tooth extraction.
Gums and Periodontitis
Equally painful is the inflammation of the tooth’s supporting tissues, known as periodontitis. In addition to severe pain, this condition can lead to tooth loss over time. We recommend booking an appointment immediately for gum curettage or periodontal surgery, depending on the severity of the disease.
A subtle yet sometimes excruciating pain is also associated with sensitive teeth. In this case, enamel loss exposes the dentin to food, drinks, or external agents, causing sharp toothaches.
Naturally, the pain intensifies as enamel loss worsens. A remedy includes using toothpaste for sensitive teeth and a bite guard if teeth grinding is the cause. If exposed roots are the issue, composite fillings or dental veneers may be used as alternatives.
Finally, among the worst dental pains is that caused by wisdom teeth. In some cases, impacted teeth can lead to inflammation and abscesses, resulting in severe pain that cannot be alleviated with simple anti-inflammatory medication.
