Dental emergencies: advice on how to deal with them

Our daily dental care routine is not always enough to protect us from potential damage. Indeed, we can experience trauma or suffer minor accidents that threaten our oral health. These must be addressed as soon as possible to prevent the situation from worsening. Below is some advice on how to handle typical emergency situations.

If a tooth falls out due to trauma, it is always best to preserve it in good condition in a glass of milk or, alternatively, place it under your tongue to keep it moist with saliva. You should visit your dentist as quickly as possible. If the damage is more severe than anticipated, the tooth will need to be replaced.

If you experience severe toothache, it could be pulpitis. This is a very intense, throbbing pain typical of this condition, often triggered by deep decay or severe trauma to the tooth. In this instance, we recommend taking a painkiller and booking an appointment with your dentist for a precise diagnosis and emergency treatment.
At Freesmile, we guarantee continuous dental care, even throughout the Christmas period.

If your teeth have become sensitive, avoid hot, cold, sweet, or acidic drinks and foods. If you feel sensitivity when brushing your teeth with cold tap water, we advise using lukewarm water, buying a fluoride toothpaste, and applying a remineralising gel for dentinal tubules without rinsing. Should the discomfort persist, you will need to contact your trusted dentist for a check-up.
We hope you will not need this advice, but we wish you a wonderful holiday and remind you that the Freesmile practice is always here for you.
