The Average Cost of Dental Implants in Italy

No two dental implant procedures are the same, which is why the cost of dental implants is always provided as an estimate. “Implant procedures are complex and consist of multiple stages,” explains Michael Schmitz, Medical Director of the FreeSmile Dental Centre in Rome. “There are different fees for each patient.”

The cost of each element depends on the dental practice. Some practices offer a free CT scan at the start of the process as an incentive (the CT scan helps determine suitability for dental implants). Others charge for it, and you might receive a bill starting from €100 for the service.

Overall, implants are a lifetime investment and a significant step for those who need them. A quick Google search shows that the cost of dental implants in Italy varies greatly.

The main reason there is no standard price is that no two procedures are identical. “Unlike a single service, such as a filling, implant fees are calculated based on the type and complexity of the work,” says Dr. Dr. Michael Schmitz.

In other words, variables such as performing a CT scan during the preliminary examination, the need for a sinus lift or bone graft, and the type of bone graft all influence the final price.

Additional factors affecting the cost of your dental implants include the location of your dentist: major metropolitan areas tend to be more expensive.

No one buys just an implant: the implant is simply the metal or ceramic screw that goes into the jawbone. In addition, an abutment (the part that connects the crown to the implant) and the crown itself are required. All these items have separate prices.
Many patients will also require a sinus lift or bone graft to make the jawbone healthy enough to keep the implant stable. This also adds to the cost.
At FreeSmile, we have adopted special mathematical models to ensure the exact type of implant and a perfectly vertical graft to the jawbone. Thanks to this technique, we have extended the lifespan of the implant and significantly reduced the failure rate.

Another key factor determining the cost of a dental implant is the number and position of the teeth to be replaced within the dental arch.

For example, if you are filling a gap with three or four adjacent teeth, you could use a bridge held in place with only two implants, reducing the total cost by up to 30%. Since two implants can support three or four adjacent teeth, it is less expensive than four single implants.

Dental Implant Costs: Full Arch

Since there are different approaches to grafting a full dental arch, the wide range of prices is quite comprehensive.

The most expensive option is to replace teeth individually. This method is the longest and most exhausting for the patient, but it allows the dentist to preserve some existing teeth if they are sufficiently healthy. This type of procedure in Italy ranges from around €6,000 upwards.

A less expensive option is implant-supported dentures, where two full arches of artificial teeth replace the natural upper and lower teeth (after the remaining teeth are removed).

The arch is anchored to four or six implants each in the upper and lower jaw. This option, also known by the commercial name All-on-4, typically ranges between €5,000 and €15,000 for a complete set.

FreeSmile, in this case, is a benchmark in Italy in the field of dental implants, with over 20,000 All-on-4 implants placed using the Toronto Bridge technique.

Thanks to these results, we have clients from all over Italy and can offer a full dental arch at a significantly lower cost: €6,490.

Dental Implants and Additional Costs

It is very important to carefully discuss the additional costs associated with a dental implant procedure. For example, the possible extraction of some teeth, anaesthesia, or diagnosis can affect the final price, leaving you understandably disappointed.

Other additional expenses, even minor ones, may include over-the-counter or prescription medications, such as painkillers after certain procedures or antibiotics before or after if the dentist decides they are necessary.

Since dental implants are a lengthy process, you may incur costs over many months. Today, in fact, 80% of dentists offer personalised financing based on the client’s capabilities.

FreeSmile has always been attentive to this aspect and has always worked to secure the best agreements on the market. To date, we can offer personalised plans of up to 72 instalments.

FreeSmile is partnered with major insurance providers in Italy, such as Cesare Pozzo, Pronto Care, AON Generali, Health Assistance, Unisalute, Fasi, and Fasdac.
