What is gingival curettage?<\/strong><\/p>\n

When a case of periodontitis results in periodontal pockets deeper than 5 mm, then periodontal surgery is called for. Otherwise the most appropriate therapy is gingival curettage.<\/p>\n

Gingival curettage involves removing the tartar and the bacterial plaque from the gingival pockets. How is this done?<\/p>\n

A special instrument is used to scrape the gingival wall, eliminating the soft tissue from the periodontal pocket while also cleaning any exposed portion of the tooth\u2019s root.<\/p>\n

Gingival curettage is only carried out under anaesthesia. Once completed, the area treated is immediately disinfected with a special liquid. After few days, the swelling of the gums will go away, as they gradually regain their adherence to the teeth.<\/p>\n

Advantages and disadvantages of gingival curettage<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gingival curettage is an operation that improves the stability of the teeth, the health of the gums and the patent\u2019s sense of taste.<\/p>\n
