Can the color of teeth be lightened?
It is possible to lighten the color of your teeth with professional whitening. This technique uses a hydrogen peroxide-based whitening gel that penetrates the enamel and whitens the teeth through a chemical reaction catalyzed by a special lamp. The treatment can also be carried out at home, using masks containing the same whitening gel to be applied to the teeth for a few hours a day for several days. In this case the concentration of hydrogen peroxide is much lower than in the professional treatment and the result is less beautiful.
How is professional teeth whitening done?
It is carried out using a whitening gel containing hydrogen peroxide together with a device that produces a light that activates a chemical reaction of the gel which has in the meantime penetrated the enamel. Before carrying out the treatment we do a professional teeth cleaning, the gums, lips and eyes must be protected. After the treatment we apply a desensitizing gel to reduce the discomfort of tooth sensitivity and we inform the patient to follow a “white” diet. The duration of the treatment depends on the type of color we want to achieve.

What are dental veneers?
They are thin ceramic plates, with a thickness of approximately 0.7 mm, which are applied to the external surface of the front teeth to modify their shape, colour, length and position. In practice they cover the surface of the tooth.
How are dental veneers applied?
Before attaching veneers (Veneers), the teeth must be prepared; a thin layer of enamel of a thickness similar to that of the veneers which will then be glued on top is removed, so as to be permanently fixed. To complete the treatment two sessions are needed: in the first the tooth is prepared, the color is chosen and a temporary restoration is applied; in the second, the positioning and fixing of the veneers.
What is the color of a tooth due to?
The tooth is made up of enamel on the outside and dentin on the inside. The color of the tooth is mainly given by the dentin which is yellowish in color. The enamel is transparent and allows the color of the underlying dentin to shine through. Therefore, the color of a tooth is determined by the color combination between enamel and dentin. If the enamel wears away, the teeth will turn yellow because more and more dentin is exposed. Some types of foods such as coffee and red wine and also smoking, favor the alteration of color due to the absorption of their pigment by the teeth.
Can teeth alignment last a lifetime?
Yes, but it is necessary to maintain the new positions of the teeth obtained through the orthodontic appliance, through the application of a “retainer”, a thin metal wire that is glued to the internal side of the teeth. Furthermore, you need to make sure that the wisdom teeth can no longer push the other teeth, moving them.
Are all the stains on your teeth easily removable?
We must distinguish between superficial stains and deep stains. The first are those caused by smoking and foods rich in pigments (coffee, red wine, tea, some vegetables rich in iron, etc.). These stains can be removed with a specific teeth cleaning technique (air flow). Deep stains, for example, are those caused by taking the antibiotic tetracycline (dark spots) during tooth development or by excessive consumption of fluoride (white spots). These cannot be eliminated but possibly covered with ceramic veneers or capsules.
