The gingiva (or gums) is the part of tissue that surrounds the tooth and that covers the bone tissue basically to support the tooth itself.
Healthy gingivas have a light pink color, with a so-called “orange peel” appearance. They can be more or less visible when speaking or smiling depending on how much the lips reveal the teeth. For this reason they also have an important aesthetic value.
